04/01/10 - The Readoption Process Begins!

Well this part of the adoption process has certainly been the easiest and quickest for us!

We began the readoption process, required as the boys entered the United States on a I-4 visa, last Tuesday when I mailed copies of our paperwork to Kathleen Hogan Morrison, the adoption lawyer highlighted by our home study agency. Wednesday afternoon (yes, next day!), I received a call from their office. They had received all our paperwork, I answered a few more questions, and we had a court date for the following week! Wow - nothing happened that fast before!!

So, Thursday, April 1st we awoke at 4pm to catch the 5:51am train to downtown Chicago to be to the Daley Center by 8am. We had been telling the boys Mommy and Daddy will wake you up very early, when it is still dark, and we will take the train to Chicago. We live a half block from the train station the boys had seen and were very excited about actually riding the train! Going to bed Wednesday night, John Eyob said, "Tomorrow, train, Mommy-a!" He was so excited in fact that as I got out of the shower at about 4:15am the next morning, I heard a little voice saying, "Train today, Mommy-a!" John Eyob was up and ready to go!

We bought the boys MP3 players on the train which helped pass the time until it got light enough for them to see outside:Ryan Ephrem is holding his "ticket." The boys trip on the train was free but another passenger at our station gave them each one of her old monthly passes. They were so excited to have a ticket and the train conductor even punched them, both ways!

The boys being served their papers:

"Up in the sky, Mommy-a!" We were on the 17th floor and the boys could have looked out the window for hours!

I love this picture, Mommy and her boys:

Daddy and the boys:

We appeared before a judge with our lawyer and answered a few questions about the boys: how are they doing here? etc. Our lawyer will go back to court in a few weeks and then everything should be good and we should get American birth certificates in 3-4 months! Then it's on to obtaining the next thing on our list: Certificates of Citizenship.
