08/09/10 - Wisconsin State Fair

We had a SUPER busy - but tons of fun - month of July! I am getting over the fact that I am not going to be able to blog about all of it: 4th of July fun with friends, picnics, free movies, Family Camping, Family Zoo Night, children's concerts, library concerts and programs, pool parties, and lunch with friends. But the boys are having a GREAT summer and I am so blessed to be able to watch their excitement over all the firsts this summer has to offer!!

So now we are into August and the Wisconsin State Fair! Our friend Alison came with us and even though it was a really hot day (but there was a breeze - yeah!), we had lots of fun!

Our first stop was cream puffs (which we ate at the Irish stage but I didn't feel bad as I knew we would be coming back and ordering from there later):
I think it is safe to say Ryan enjoyed his cream puff:We went to the animal barns (Ryan's favorite part of the day), saw Jake the world's largest horse, lots of pigs and sheep and cows, and the boys did the kiddie tractor pull (John's favorite part of the day).
There were also mini tractors for the boys to ride on:
Waiting for the pig races (it was a different company running the races than it had been in the past few years. This is our faces before the race - they would have looked way more disappointed after the races as they were pretty lame compared to what we had seen in the past. But we sat at the top of the bleachers - the boys chose our seats - and they loved looking behind us at trucks!):
Deep fried reuban on a stick (one of Mommy's favorite parts of the day):
The boys had their picture taken in a bunch of these cut outs:We went to the air conditioned vendor building so the boys would be able to cool off and hopefully fall asleep for a little bit. Son Number 1 quickly dozed off:
followed closely by Son Number 2:
We chose Monday to go to the Fair as one of our favorite Christian rock bands Third Day was the main stage act. waiting for the show to begin:

This was the boys' first Christina concert and they did really well although John said it was too long and next time he wants to wait in the car!
Other fair highlights: Irish dancers and bag pipers, the Chinese acrobats (which inspired the boys to try their own acrobats on the medal bleacher like seats - no one was hurt!), diving dogs, Days of the Dinosaur tent, and the food/flower/craft exhibit.

our total food intake for the day: cream puffs, pizza, pretzel and cheese,
2 reubans on a stick, shredded beef sandwich, 2 deep fried s'mores, 2 corn dog, hot dog, banana royal sundae, and a deep fried Milky Way plus gallons of water (brought our own water bottles and filled them at the drinking fountain so we'd have more money for food!).
